Student Assistant Employment Application

The Office of Multicultural Student Life typically employs 10-14 work study students during the fall and spring semesters, to ensure smooth running of the department. Please go to OneStop to ensure you are eligible for and have been awarded Federal Work Study (FWS.) The Office of Multicultural Student Life (MSL) recognizes the importance of a student’s responsibility to his/her academic curriculum. All MSL FWS student employees must hold a GPA of 2.5 or higher when hired, and must maintain at least a 2.5 GPA during his/her employment with MSL. FWS Students should carry a minimum of six (6) credit hours during employment.

FWS student employees may work a maximum of up to twenty hours per week, and a minimum of 10 hours during the fall and spring semesters, dependent on Federal Work Study award. No FWS student will be eligible to work for the University of Tennessee more than 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters. The MSL staff recommends no more than 15 hours per week in order to maintain a healthy balance of work, academics, and other involvement.

    MSL hires students who receive Federal Work Study funding through the financial aid office. If you are unsure whether you have been awarded, go to http://onestop.utk.edu/work-study/.

  • Jobs and Work Availability

    Work study student employees are required to work a minimum of 10 hours per week, and an average of 12 to 15 hours. Please indicate your work availability. Students are required to work a minimum of 2-hour shifts. MSL regular semester hours of operation are:
    Sunday, 2:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.;
    Monday - Thursday, 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.;
    Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.;
    Saturday, 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
    Summer hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
    Marketing Assistant shifts are required during regular office hours, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
