Multicultural Student Life Presents: Safe Zone Student Training

Safe Zone is a voluntary network of faculty, staff and students who believe that every member of the UT community should have an equal opportunity to grow and learn in safe and open environments. The program is designed to improve visibility and support of the LGBT students and employees. Participants display a Safe Zone symbol to demonstrate their nurturance and commitment to celebrating the invaluable contributions of LGBT individuals and communities. Safe Zone training will explore commonly held myths and misperceptions about LGBT communities and challenge commonly held beliefs about the LGBT community. Trainers use small group activities, the dissemination of information, and large group discussions. At the end of the Safe Zone training, facilitators will offer participants the opportunity to receive a UT Safe Zone sticker, which signifies their completion of training and can be posted to inform others that they have participated in the UT Safe Zone Training. Students may register at http://safezone.utk.edu/training.html. To viewSafe Zone ally locations, go to the UTK Maps page, and choose the Safe Zone Network.

If your department/office, residence hall, or student organization wants to schedule a specific Safe Zone training, you may send an email to safezone@utk.edu for consideration.
